Another AQ Bites the Dust?

According to the New York Times (among others) we've managed to liquidate Anwar al-Awlaki.  For those who don't remember, he was Fort Hood gunman Nidal Hasan's pen pal, and spoke glowingly of other terrorists:

A missile fired from an American drone aircraft in Yemen on Friday killed Anwar al-Awlaki, the radical American-born cleric who was a leading figure in Al Qaeda’s affiliate there, according to an official in Washington.

Many of the details of the strike were unclear, but the official said that the drone fired a Hellfire missile and killed Mr. Awlaki, whom the United States had been hunting in Yemen for more than two years.

Yemen’s Defense Ministry confirmed Mr. Awlaki’s death, and both Yemeni and American officials hailed the strike as a significant success in the campaign to weaken Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, a group American officials believe to be the most dangerous Qaeda affiliate.

As I was writing that first part, I got an email from FoxNews that reads:

President Obama will speak on the CIA strike that killed Al Qaeda leader Anwar al-Awlaki. WATCH LIVE on Fox News and FoxNews.com at 11 a.m. ET

So, that is encouraging.  I liked the title that Gabriel Malor of Ace of Spades used to post the story....

Anwar al-Awlaki Killed By Crushing Disappointment in NBC's Fall Lineup, Drone-Launched Hellfire Missiles, But Mostly Drone-Launched Hellfire Missiles

Either way, a big win in the War on Terrorism, and Kudos to both the men and women who brought this about, and to the Commander in Chief for ordering the kill shot.

UPDATE: Looks like we got Samir Khan with the same missile.  Most of you probably don't know who that is, but his most recent occupation was as the Magazine Editor for AQ.  For those who read The Jawa Report, which is an excellent resource for word on the War of Terrorism, Samir (Inshallahshaeed was his US Blogger name) was the one who treatened the lives of the Jawa Report Bloggers.

 More on Sami:

On October 11, 2010, Al‐Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula released the second edition of its English‐language magazine “Inspire”, which featured an article by former North Carolina and New York resident Samir Khan titled "I Am Proud To Be a Traitor to America." Khan asserted, “I am proud to be a traitor in America’s eyes just as much as I am proud to be a Muslim; and I take this opportunity to accentuate my oath of allegiance (bai`yah) and the mujahidin of the Arabian Peninsula’s bai`yah to the ferocious lion, the champion of jihad, the humble servant of God, my beloved Shaykh, Usama bin Ladin, may Allah protect him.” He argued that “The recent leak of a 92,000‐ page document on the American crimes and realities of the war in Afghanistan is really only a scratch upon the surface. America has a long history of massacring and subjugating Muslims and yet the American regime is still scratching its head on the question: why did Usama bin Ladin attack us? America, take a hint for once: maybe you did something.”

An American who is a known enemy combatant caught in the act of fighting our troops and
or people, activly working at the vilont overthrough the the U. S. most definetly deserves to be exicuted by what ever means can be found in defence of our country and people.

I don't care if the prick lived across the street. If you declare war on the USA then, buh bye...

They attacked us, are still attacking us, etc. Kill all the bastards & let God sort it out. We took flake for harassing the prisoners in one of our military prison for foreign combatants. How does that compare with, on public TV, beheading the young, poor Jewish kid, that was in country to teach foreign languages. These guys ARE the enemy. No different that the Viet Cong in Vietnam or the Nazi's in Germany. I am a U.S. Navy Veteran, Ex-Hospital Corpsman, stationed most of my time with the U.S. Marine Corp. The things I saw the enemy do in Southeast Asia, & we not do, makes me want engage on the for the AQ bastards, if I wasn't 72 years old. I am proud of the men & women that fly the Predators, no POW's, No KIA's or MIA's. They make the AQ wish they had thought twice before they started a war with us.

The US declared war on terroist, wheather they are American or Foreign. If the allegence is not to support the US and what is stands for then the individual need not be part of the US and leave the country. Americans support the US!! Moslum and Islam are enemies of western thoughts and ideas and have no allegence to the US or what is stands for.

The missile strike was the proper response against any and all terrorists and enemys of America. You cannot blame the gun for the killings, it is the hand that wields the gun that is responsible, therefore he got what was coming to him.
