Deceased SF soldier and San Diego "Occupy Movement" chef not as deceased or in SF as advertised?
January 12, 2012 (San Diego)—U.S. Army Master Sergeant Jay Polk has reportedly been killed overseas while on active duty with U.S. special forces, according to friends and family in San Diego, where he had been living recently.
During a candlelight memorial service held this evening at the Civic Center Plaza, one mourner observed, “Jay was a Cavalryman, he was a Master Sergeant, and he knew how to take care of people.” The service was attended by local veterans, occupy members, and friends of the fallen soldier.
Word of Polk’s death came as a shock to local members of Occupy San Diego, where Polk was known as “Chef” from the early days, helping to prepare and serve 500 to 1,000 meals a day for homeless people and Occupy members—anyone who needed a meal.
In his final post before deploying, he wrote to fellow members on the Occupy San Diego Facebook page that "you guys are this country's heroes and sheroes."
Some knucklehead at Democratic Underground claimed that Polk had been deployed to Syria, and had died there. The author even claimed to have contacted the base and verified it. As days went by and no DoD notice of death showed up, the conpiracy theories began, that the DoD was refusing to comment bevause he was killed in an illegal war, etc.
Luckily my buddy Jonn Lilyea didn't believe any of it, and with good reason, as SF guys usually don't announce their upcoming super-duper secret missions on Facebook.
You know if VFP [Veterans For Peace] is involved, there’s something fishy going on. AKO has no record of a Jay Polk. The only person on AKO whose name with that rank is even remotely like MSG Jay Polk is a MSG Jeff Polk who is retired.
The only reason I put a question mark in the title is that we don’t know if that was his real name or not. But you’ll notice the casualty list has no master sergeant listed either. It just sounds too fishy to ignore. Kevin has written to the magazine to get them off their asses to check into the story with their resources. Seems to me that a phony soldier getting the Occupy folks all upset is a bigger story than what they’ve written.
Not content with that search, Jonn went out and found Mr. Polk's DD214, which was a bit shy of the SF Super Soldier he was alleged to be....
If he was an SF MSG, it was the quickest training and the quickest promotion ever completed. And it never got listed anywhere.
More is coming out, including the most recent updates, his having spent time in a Loauisiana penitentiary.
Pat sends us a court document that says Jaymond Polk was in prison a few short years ago. We don’t know why he was a guest of the State of Louisiana, only that he was at Caddo Correctional Center in Shreveport, Louisiana in late 2009 when he filed a suit against the center for violating his civil rights, apparently he was on parole at the time, and in violation of his parole agreement;
I'll keep tracking this one, but it just shows why the Stolen Valor act needs to be in place. He's been using his military service to hood wink people, and getting the tangible benefits that come with it.
